Two free outdoor activities with kids in Bristol this April

It’s warming up and the rain is gradually stopping, it’s time for some free outdoor activities for kids in Bristol this April.

Windmill Hill’s 40th birthday Wild Outdoors Day – Saturday 16th April – 12-4pm – FREE

Wild Outdoors Day, taking place on Saturday 16th April, will include a host of nature activities, woodland stories, outdoor cooking, bbq, local ales and a fantastic line up of live music.

Giant sparkly butterflies from the Invisible Circus will kick off the event at 12 noon to herald the official opening of the farm’s new community garden, a former car park which has been transformed to create more green space for local people. Anthony Brown, past Master of the Society of Merchant Venturers, the Bristol-based organisation that donated £5,000 towards the development of the garden, will be on hand to cut the ribbon.

Children will be able to enjoy bug hunts and nature discovery sessions from The National Trust, RSPB, Avon Wildlife Trust and Bristol Naturalists’ Society, while adults can try their hand at the annual Welly Wanging competition. Other exciting activities will include outdoor cooking sessions with BBC Cook of the Year, Jo Ingleby, a campfire cookout with the Ape Project and storytelling in the woodland.

The farm cafe will be providing a tempting menu of locally sourced seasonal treats, and farmer Tim’s BBQ is set to attract visitors from far and wide. There will also be a bar serving local ales, beer and wine, perfect for an afternoon of cool live music from local musicians Evie Woods, Jimmy Brewer and Three London Planes.
